← Buyer GuidesProduction Lead Time for RO Systems: Realistic Planning
Lead time is the gap between your deposit/payment confirmation and the goods being ready for inspection. Underestimating it is how selling seasons get missed.
Key points
- Standard ODM models typically run 3–5 weeks after deposit, assuming materials are in stock.
- Custom OEM (new tooling, new packaging, new certifications) can run 8–12 weeks or more — tooling alone takes weeks.
- Peak seasons (pre-Christmas, pre-Chinese New Year) stretch every timeline. Book production slots early.
- Certification testing runs in parallel, not in sequence — start it the day the design locks, not after.
- We don't promise the fastest lead time — we promise a date we can actually hit, with inspection booked before it.
Action checklist
- Get the lead time in writing with a start trigger defined (deposit received? artwork approved?).
- Ask what could stretch it: material shortages, tooling revisions, holiday shutdowns.
- Build in one week of buffer before your hard deadline — then add inspection days.
- For seasonal goods, count backwards from the retail date, not forwards from today.
- Confirm the factory's holiday calendar (Chinese New Year shuts lines for weeks).
Common questions
Can lead time be shortened with a rush fee?
Sometimes, for standard models with materials on hand. For custom tooling or certification-bound products, money doesn't compress physics — mold steel still takes the time it takes.
